Seriously, I am having a bitch of a time finding my daughter a bathing suit that is modest. She likes to buy at The Limited Too, but I think she may be too busty now for their swimwear. We'll see. Tomorrow, my husband has the day off, so after her eye doctor appointment, he'll take her to the mall. Hopefully we can find something a bit more appropriate. I was shocked at how small the ladies' small was. She is a petite gal with a slender and athletic build. However, these styles make her feel bulky and uncomfortable. At her age, I used to wear a t-shirt over my swimsuit because I could not stand to have anyone notice my chest. Back then, though, halter tops, bikinis, and such were not marketed at young teens, and swimwear was cute yet functional. Nowadays, it seems like fashion is more about showing as much skin as you can than being able to swim, and if you are caught between childhood and adulthood, you are pretty much screwed.

When I want something to tan in, I go to the mall. When I want something to swim in I go to Sports Authority.

Date: 2009-03-17 06:44 am (UTC)From:I used to buy black ones when I was teaching swimming lessons professionally, and they last forever. If you buy her one that's a tiny bit loose, she could probably wear it next year, too, and they come in all kinds of colors.
I personally think they're cute, and they're ideal for actual swimming since they're made for athletes. Another plus--you can get them with built-in bras and racerbacks (straps that go between the shoulder blades), which might be good for her if she's feeling self-conscious. If she feels like people are looking at her, it might help if she knows her girls are covered and are not going anywhere.
I hope I was able to help. (and can we tell I love Speedos? :D )
