Brisbane, Australia experienced a terrifying tsunami-like event- many people are still missing. Seriously scary stuff. Please offer prayer

[livejournal.com profile] fabricdragon  could really use some good fortune/ positive prayers lately. http://fabricdragon.livejournal.com/313527.html If you know anyone who's hiring for computer based jobs, i.e. needs a sys admin or similar position filled, please contact her.

Amusement park for disabled kids and their families: Morgan's Wonderland.

Florida is known for oranges and alligators... check out this picture.

There is so much on my mind right now, so many people (and animals) in need of help; I'll be posting more later. In the meantime, here are some places where you can do your part to make someone's day a little bit brighter...

A Day for Hearts Feb 14th is Congenital Heart Defects Awareness Day. One close to my heart, as my cousin's baby has a congenital heart defect.
Animals in Florida have been hit hard by the recent cold weather. You can help by contacting your local aquarium, zoo, or wildlife agencies about what they need. I've seen some pretty amazing things happen when people band together to help stranded turtles and marine mammals.
Project Linus Crafty people can send blankets and encouragement to kids going through rough times, such as illness or poverty.
Local animal shelters are always in need of blankets and pet supplies, as well. You can make donations of food and blankets at most PetSmart or Petco stores,.
Don't forget your local social services office. Local families do not only need help around the holidays... There were plenty of worthwhile projects posted at the DSS office. One such charity is Dress-For-Success. Another program in my area helps displaced homemakers reenter the workforce. Maybe there is a similar program in your area.
Support your local rape crisis center. For those in the Boston area, BARCC.
Ditto on suicide prevention hotlines.
Of special note: The Trevor Project, the first suicide prevention hotline and support specifically for LGBTQ teens.
