writing from Elizabeth City, NC-
2 weeks of insanity, hunger, dampness, and Murphy's Law in full effect, but we finally made it to the Intracoastal Waterway, about halfway to our destination. 2 weeks of living on ramen and tuna, and battling rough seas, equipment malfunctions, and exhaustion...
There will be one helluva story to be told when I am done writing about our (mis)adventures. Among the highlights: upon leaving NY harbor at night, just after I took the helm, we ran aground at Sandy Hook, NJ due to shifting shoals. Lost the inflatable, got beached and tilted 45*, and then spent the next week dealing with small craft advisories. Got down the Chesapeake this weekend by miracle, seriously- dropped the handheld radio in calf-deep water while I tried to fix the bilge pump.
Made Elizabeth City yesterday, great reception, wine and cheese, roses, and fantastic people who helped us get settled. New plan- stop in Charleston, SC for a while to gain resources before heading to FL. On a good note- the Coast Guard found our inflatable, despite the odds, and might be sending it to Charleston.
More later. I need a shower.
