Things are taking much longer than anticipated, and I'm concerned about overstaying our welcome. I don't want to take advantage of my brother's kindness. The fact remains that we've been here for 1 1/2 weeks, so I'm going to look into motels that accept pets if this takes much longer.
The wrinkles in our plans:
(for reference, K= guy working on mast and rigging, L= previous owner of boat)
1. K found that a part needs replacing, and must wait for ordered part before beginning the work
2. Coast Guard documentation needs to be sent out, and website is not very helpful. Went to the library yesterday to print out the form for documenting "Stardust" with the USCG. Filled it out and have now found that I need another form in order to submit my payment for the documentation. *sigh* I wish it had said something on the instructions for the form in the first place.
3. Had a kerfuffle over getting the survey and insurance taken care of.
4. miscellaneous WTF moments that had us running in circles
What it boils down to is this: we need to do things in sequence, and if one thing is delayed, that affects everything. Without the work being done, the boat cannot be put into the water. Without the survey and insurance, the marina won't allow it done. Without the boat being put into the water, we cannot power it over to our marina. All this before we can even pick up the sails and stuff from storage. Once that is done, we can finally rent a Uhaul to pick up our stuff from storage. Because, oh yeah- I need a few items from our storage by Aug. 14th.
If not for L, we wouldn't have gotten this far. We don't have the experience or the connections that she has, so her help has been crucial. She wants to see us on the boat as soon as possible and to be able to follow our adventures. I want to see us on our boat, now that the official transfer of ownership is complete, and to get out of my brother's apartment before it strains our relationship further.
