Tomorrow morning, a volunteer from the shelter will come for the kittens. Hopefully, we'll be able to round up the mother without incident. She seems wary but allows me to approach within a foot of her to put down the food dishes, and has eaten in front of me. I don't think she has had much contact with humans, though. If the mother is feral, they will catch, neuter and release her. The kittens will be easier to capture, though, since they will approach me to play. Right now, the kittens are tumbling around and play-fighting, although they'd only just been learning to walk a few days ago. I'm hoping for the best.
In light of this, I recommend that people support no-kill shelters whenever they can. If you are able to purchase a can of food for the shelter kitties the next time you visit the pet stores, that would be much appreciated.
