Day 02 - Your first love, in great detail
Aug. 25th, 2010 10:43 pmI had thought Joe was the one; I gave him everything, despite my vow to wait until marriage. And then he broke up with my answering machine, and I was severely depressed. This left me vulnerable to the first person to show interest in me, who refused to take no for an answer despite numerous refusals on my part. After the incident, it was just easier to stop fighting and do whatever he wanted of me. He wanted me to be completely dependent on him. He vacillated between verbal abuse, coercion, and emotional blackmail, going so far as to threaten suicide if I tried to leave. Long after our "relationship" ended and he started seeing my friend, he would beg me to give him a chance, going so far as to ask me to join them in bed. I admit to giving in, because I wanted her, but after that, I was done,
Fast forward to a year later... My friend asked me to come with her off-campus because she didn't want to be alone in the car with a guy who'd asked for a ride, knowing that he didn't like me. He, in turn, asked his female friend to come with, and she didn't want to be alone with him, either. So, we ended up with three unexpected riders that day, for she had asked Bryan.
I wasn't looking to start a relationship with a guy but things never go according to plan. I started talking to Bryan because I was bored. He would nod appreciatively and politely say stuff like, "I see. Mmm-hmmm." Which I took to mean that he wanted me to go on, so I did. Years later, this is still funny, as he was only trying to be polite. His first impression was, "When will she come up for air?"
We became good friends, and ended up working on a haunted house together. He walked me home in the cold, I invited him to stay the night... perfectly innocent. I didn't want to be alone that night, as I'd had a claustrophobic episode earlier that night. Perfect gentleman. The next night, it was just assumed that we'd spend the night together, only this time I kissed him. And the rest is history... Within a month we were engaged, and by the time we parted for winter break, I was pregnant. We eventually married, but not until she became a toddler, and were blessed with the birth of a son as well. Since then, it's been a rollercoaster and we've tried to enjoy every minute of it, Our friendship and love for each other has continued to strengthen, and I look forward to many more happy years with him.
