The sewer now apparently backs up into our basement and that toilet overflows when I run the sump pump. As in, when I turned on the pump to deal with today's flooding, the water I piped out is shunted back into our house, and now it smells like... well, a sewer, down there. And we are leaving in the morning, so we can't get this taken care of until we get back. *head-desk*
The sewer authority told me to redirect water into that effing drainpipe. I'm only doing what they told me. The website seems to indicate that I would be held responsible for any breaks in the sewer line and that it's not their problem if the sewer backs up into my house. So my temporary measure to avoid icing the street backfired... in a big way. And I can't really do anything about it right now. *damn*
